2023 Highlights

Helen Leitch Scholarship Awarded to Sebastian Umaña Sedó

Sebastian Umaña Sedó, a DVSc student at OVC, was awarded the inaugural Dr. Helen Leitch Dairy Development Scholarship in June 2023. The scholarship, open to graduate students researching dairy production and its application to international development, required a video submission. Sebastian, from San José, Costa Rica, grew up in a farming family and studied veterinary medicine in Argentina. Inspired by Dr. Stephen LeBlanc, he pursued a DVSc at the University of Guelph. His research focuses on reducing dairy calf mortality through low-cost, modifiable practices, aiming to improve outcomes in developing countries. He has shared his work via workshops in Central and South America.
